Game 1
The Leduc MNP Riggers couldn’t come away with a win during their first playoff game against the Edmonton Royals.
“I thought we competed well,” said coach Dean Gauvreau about game one of the best of three .
“We had a couple of bad bounces that didn’t go our way, breakaways, missing nets. We knew going in that we couldn’t match them skill for skill so we had to out-match them with hard work, and I thought we worked harder.”
The Royals got on board first with a goal at the halfway mark of the first period.
The Riggers tied it up with 8:42 remaining in the second. A shot from Young, assisted by Forbes and McNallie tied the game at one.
With 2:42 remaining in the third period, the Royals got one past Rigger netminder Mason Buchannan, scoring the eventual game winner.
“It was an unlucky break and they scored with about two minutes left in the game,” Gauvreay said.
“I told the guys after the game that playoff hockey is tough and you have to fight through the hard checks and all he stuff after the whistles.”
