Riggers News - Jan 29
The Leduc MNP Riggers are keeping up their winning streak after winning 6-1 over the West Edmonton Wild at the LRC on Jan. 22.
“We are just working hard and getting good goal tending,” said coach Dean Gauvreau.
“The first period, I was disappointed with the effort we came out with. I think we read too much into the stats about their team being a last place team in their division. We talked about where our level of commitment has to be between the first and the second period and during the second and third period I thought we brought the energy in and the commitment we needed to win.”
The Riggers got on the board in the first with a goal from Brandon Forbes, assisted by David Alackson and Geoff Vandal.
The second period was when the Riggers really got into the game, scoring three goals in the last six minutes of play. Keith Brady got one in with a little help from Brad Schumacher and Nick Grueter and captain Josh Dugas found the back of the net, assisted by Jeff Daniels and Midget AAA Oil King Dallas Smith, who was called up. On the power play, Dustin Dehaan tickled the twine after a pass from Alackson and Kevin Glegloff on the power play.

With 29 seconds left in the second, the Wild made their mark, but that would be all she wrote for the Edmonton team.
Dugas got his second of the night at the halfway point of the third from a pass from Forbes and Kyle Michalsky. Before the end of the game, Jon Young put the nail in the coffin with assists coming from Forbes and Tyler Roberge.
The Riggers who are now three points out of fifth place in their division, have a spot in the playoffs.
“Playoff hockey for us has begun to start and guys have to bring their intensity to every game and every practice, said Gauvreau.
“I think we are taking big steps to be ready. I think there is some big work to do to get us to that playoff level. If we continue to work on what we have been practicing… practices have been at a much higher level now to get us ready for playoff hockey. If we can do that we will turn some heads during the playoffs.
“I think the team is starting to turn the page and hope we get the chance to surprise a team or two in the playoffs and our guys continue to work hard.”
The MNP Riggers will play their last home game before the playoffs on Friday, Feb. 5 against the Edmonton Royals. The game starts at 8 p.m. and is at the Sobey’s arena at the LRC.
