Thursday, 21 January 2010 11:08

The City of Leduc was proud to assist the Leduc MNP Riggers in their quest to secure the 2011 Junior B Provincial Hockey Championships at the Leduc Recreation Center from March 31st To April 3, 2011.

Bill Masters, Dean Gauvreau and Jim Jones presented a package to the Capital Junior Hockey League last night in Edmonton and won the bid over Ft. Saskatchewan and Spruce Grove.

The Event will take place in the Ken’s Furniture and DQ Arena’s in the Leduc Recreation Center with the potential to hold the final games in the Sobey’s Arena.

The 2011 Hockey Alberta Junior B Championships will feature 8 teams made up of two representatives from the four Junior B Leagues from across Alberta.  The MNP Riggers will play in the Provincial Championships as the host team.

The Riggers were established in 1968 and have operated for 42 years in the City of Leduc.  They last hosted the Junior B Provincial Championships in 1995 and have been league champions of the Capital Jr. League five times, and Provincial Champions twice (1981 & 1992).  They were also Alberta’s representative to the Canada Winter Games in 1979 with Alderman Bob Young participating on the team.

This year’s Junior B Provincial Championships will take place in Peace River, Alberta.

Please join me in congratulating Bill Masters and his executive with the Riggers, along with Head Coach Dean Gauvreau, Assistant Coach Kyle Ryan, and Manager Carson Ryan in their incentive and desire to host these championships in April of 2011.
