Friday, November 6 the Leduc MNP Rigger hosted the Strathcona Bruins whom were only one point up on the home team in the standings. The Bruins opened the scoring early to take a 1-0 lead only to have the MNP Riggers tie the game as Kyle Michalsky makes a sweet play to get Nick Gruter the puck as he tucks it past the Bruins netminder. Before the tying goal could be announced, the MNP Riggers take their first lead of the game when Scott Lekochinsky finds the back of the net with Kevin Glegloff getting the helper. Josh Dugas takes a roughing penalty late in the first period which leads to the Bruins second goal of the night only 26 seconds into their power-play. The game would remain tied going into the first intermission.
The Riggers would take a 3-2 lead early in the second on Dustin Dehan's goal with helpers going to Michalsky and Gruter, a line that looked dangerous all night long. The Bruins special teams went to work once again in the second as Michel Chalifoux tied the game at three with an unassisted goal on a Bruins power-play goal at the 7:35 mark. The MNP Riggers get a bit of a break as Bruins snipers shoot towards the Riggers net only to have the puck ring off the post not once, but twice in the second to keep the game tied for the home team. The power-play continues to work for the visiting Bruins as they take a 4-3 lead with just over eight minutes left in the middle frame. They easily could have made it 5-3 as Kirk Kenny takes a shot on the breakaway only to find MNP Riggers netminder, Kyle Bailey in the way and the Bruins find themselves with a 4-3 lead going into the second intermission.
The third period finds the MNP Riggers trailing by two when Tyler Gramatovich scores an unassisted goal mid-frame. Josh Dugas tries his best to get the home team back within one goal with a late power-play opportunity, but is denied. Rob Cartwright delivers a huge hit on a Bruins player that sent his lid spinning and the MNP Riggers bench cheering. Later in the third a flurry of activity in front of the Riggers net leads to off setting unsportsmanlike-like penalties. The rough stuff continues as the sin bins begin to over flow in the third period. The teams continue to play rough throughout the final frame, but that doesn't stop the Bruins who come up with their sixth goal at the 13:50 mark, once again on the power-play. With 4:05 left in the game the Bruins manage to kill a 5 on 3 before eventually killing off the 5 on 4. With just over three minutes left in the game, the crap hits the fan with a scrum behind the Bruins net when the Bruins netminder goes down. The trainer came out, but he would get up and shake it off and remain in the game. Two Bruins players step in and take action on Josh Dugas, who managed to hold his own until Kyle Michalsky stepped in to give Dugas a hand. All four players involved in the altercation behind the Bruins net received five minute majors for fighting and game misconducts while Dugas received an additional five minutes for charging. Before the final buzzer sounded, Nick Gruter dropped the gloves to dance with the Bruins Tyson Lastiwka as they also received fighting majors and game misconducts. When it was all said and done, the MNP Riggers found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard as they lost to the Bruins with a 6-3 final.
The MNP Riggers next home action will be on Wednesday, Nov. 11. MNP Riggers fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to their Food Bank Drive taking place on November 25, December 4, and December 11. Donations for Santa's Helpers will also be accepted on these nights as well. |
